Type: | Family | Name: | Guanylate cyclase activating protein 2 |
Description: | Guanylate cyclase-activating proteins (GCAPs) are calcium-binding proteins that belong to the calmodulin superfamily. GCAPs function as regulators of guanylate cyclases. GCAPs, when not bound to calcium, activate guanylate cyclase []. Addition or subtraction of Ca2+ results in major conformational changes and the activation/deactivation of GCAP-1 and GCAP-2. Both GCAP-1 and 2 act on guanylate cyclase similarly and have approximately 50% homology between the two forms. This entry represents GCAP-2, though it also includes at least one related guanylate-cyclase-inhibitory protein (GCIP) which inhibits guanylate-cyclase upon binding Ca2+ []. | Short Name: | GCAP-2 |
