Type: | Family | Name: | Visinin-like protein 1 |
Description: | Visinin-like protein 1 (VILIP-1) belongs to the visinin-like protein (VSNL) family, which consists of VILIP-1, VILIP-2, VILIP-3, hippocalcin, and neurocalcin delta []. They are a group of calcium sensor (NCS) proteins that are involved in the Ca2+-dependent signalling cascades in nerve and cancer cells []. In humans, VILIP-1 is strongly expressed in cerebellar granule cells. VILIP-1 and VILIP-3 are effectors of guanylyl cyclase and acetyl choline receptors, and transduce calcium signals in the brain. The translocation of VILIP-1 and VILIP-3 from the cytosol to the membrane may be important for their functions in signal transduction []. VILIP-1 serves a marker of neuronal injury and can be used to predict rates of cognitive decline in early Alzheimer disease []. | Short Name: | VILIP-1 |
