Protein Domain : IPR030332

Type:  Family Name:  Sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum calcium ATPase 1
Description:  SERCA1 belongs to the IIA subfamily of P-type ATPases, whose members are Ca2+ ATPases that catalyse the hydrolysis of ATP coupled with the transport of calcium across the membrane. SERCA1 is a specialised Ca2+ pump, known as SERCA pump, which is localised in sarcoplasmic reticulum and endoplasmic reticulum []. In humans, SERCA is expressed in fast-twitch skeletal muscle and is alternatively spliced to encode SERCA1a (994 aa, adult) and 1b (1011 aa, foetal). The structure of SERCA1 has been solved [, ]. Mutations in the gene have been linked to the Brody disease, which is a rare skeletal muscle disorder transmitted as an autosomal recessive or dominant trait [, ]. Short Name:  SERCA1
