Protein Domain : IPR030170

Type:  Family Name:  Potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily H member 1
Description:  This entry represents the EAG (Ether-a-go-go) voltage-dependent potassium channel family member KCNH1 (EAG1) from animals. KCNH1 is the pore-forming (alpha) subunit of a voltage-dependent potassium channel. Human and rat KCNH1 harbours an N-terminal PAS dimerisation domain, a C-terminal cyclic nucleotide binding homology domain (cNBHD), and calmodulin-binding motifs both at the N- and C-termini [, ]. KCNH1 is widely expressed in the central nervous system, probably participating in neuronal signalling [, ]. KCNH1 channels may also be involved in sensory functions of auditory transduction and phototransduction [, ]. KCNH1 channels are also essential for induction of human myoblast differentiation and fusion [, ].The voltage-gated potassium channel ether-a-go-go (eag) was first identified in Drosophila melanogaster based on the leg-shaking mutant phenotype [, ]. Later, the EAG (Ether-a-go-go) voltage-dependent potassium channel family was classified into 3 subfamilies: EAG, EAG-related gene (ERG), and EAG-like K+ channel (ELK). The mammalian EAG subfamily comprises of two members, termed EAG1 (KCNH1, KV10.1) and EAG2 (KCNH5, KV10.2) []. Short Name:  EAG1
